REQUIREMENTS

An Instrument Rating is issued for aircraft in one of the following groups:

    • Group 1 — Multi-engine
    • Group 2 — Multi-engine Center line thrust
    • Group 3 — Single Engine
    • Group 4 — Helicopter

Before commencing flight training for the Instrument Rating, an applicant must hold aPrivate or Commercial Pilot Licence

  • An applicant must successfully complete a Transport Canada written exam
  • An applicant must successfully complete a flight test with a designated Transport Canada examiner
  • An applicant must complete a minimum of 40 hours instrument flight training, of which 20 hours can be completed in an approved flight simulator
